Kent and Marcia Baker

Kent Allen Baker 85, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Specialty Select Hospital in Des Moines. He was born on July 31, 1937, in Strawberry Point, the son of Eli and VaNeta (Carpenter) Baker. Kent was raised and educated in the area, graduating from Edgewood High School in 1956.

Marcia Lou Baker, 88, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center in Monticello of a broken heart. She was born on December 1, 1935, the daughter of Austin and Stella (Meehan) Weyant in Iowa City. Marcia was raised and educated in the area, graduating from Edgewood High School in 1952.

On March 25, 1960, Kent and Marcia were united in marriage at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Kent worked as a mechanic for eight years for Nall Chevrolet and Oldsmobile in Manchester. He then worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 26 years. Marcia worked as a clerk in the Treasurer’s Office in Elkader for six years. She then worked as a bank teller at First State Bank in Manchester for almost 34 years.

In 1992 Kent and Marcia retired, sold their home, and became full-time campers. They spent the spring and fall months at Branson, Missouri, where they worked part time at ABC Campground. Marcia checked in new campers while Kent did maintenance at the park. During the winter months, they made their home in Rockport, Texas at Drifter’s Resort where they enjoyed sightseeing, going for drives, and meeting their snowbird friends every morning at the Donut Palace. Summer months were spent at Walnut Acres Campground in Monticello. For 30 years they enjoyed a retirement of traveling and living in the 5th wheel camper. Kent often mentioned how much he loved driving the truck and towing the camper down the highway. Marcia, who was always the busy body, would tend to “get the itch” to go south in August.

Survivors include their many friends, especially Jackie and Randy Mormann, Blake (Dana) Mormann, Mitch Mormann and Molly Mormann (fiancé Colton Wegmann).

Kent and Marcia were preceded in death by their parents; Kent’s brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Rhonda Baker and Marcia’s sister, Vivian Ann Weyant.
