Burl was born at Dundee, Iowa on August 2, 1928, to Henry and Ida (Lewis) Gibbs. He received his education at the Dundee school.
On December 28, 1947, he married Hilda Sandhagen at Oneida at Hilda’s parents home. They spent most of their married life in Manchester. Burl worked for the Gamble Store for fifteen years, the City of Manchester, Marion Sheet Metal, and for West Delaware Schools for ten years. Burl D. Gibbs died Friday, May 7, 2004, at Regional Medical Center, Manchester, after an extended illness. He was seventy-five years of age.
Burl is survived by his wife, Hilda Gibbs of Manchester; five children, Robert and wife Lori of Epworth, Shirley Gibbs, Patty Palmer and husband Rick Palmer, Gary and wife Deb Gibbs all of Manchester, and Linda Holthaus of Edgewood; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Burdette (Wanda) Gibbs of Dundee and Laverne (Joan) Gibbs of Nashua; and one sister, Alice Jean Bandy of Manchester.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, watching western movies, and camping. He belonged to the Mountain Do’-ers Camping Club and a former member of the Manchester Volunteer Fire Department.
