Rachel Maxine Newton, 81, of Manchester, Iowa, died at Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood, Iowa, on Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Rachel was born in Topeka, Kansas on December 27, 1927, the daughter of Clarence and Grace (Walker) Paxson. She was raised in the Topeka area and graduated from Topeka High School.
In 1948, Rachel was united in marriage to Howard Leslie Newton in Topeka. Together they moved to Manchester. Five children were born to this union. Maxine was a full-time Mother and homemaker. Howard died in 1984 and Rachel continued to reside in Manchester and had lived at the Edgewood Convalescent home four days.
Rachel enjoyed puzzles.
Survivors include her four sons, Dan Newton and Delbert Newton both of Manchester, Donald Newton of Boscobel, Wisconsin, and Doran (Robin) Newton of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; a daughter, Sheila Newton; two grandchildren, Chris and Jasmine.
