Walter A. Klosterman, 86 , of Manchester, died at his residence on Sunday, January 3, 2010. He was born on May 28, 1923, in Petersburg, the son of John and Katherine (Nurre) Klosterman. He was raised in the area, and was educated at Sts Peter & Paul Catholic School in Petersburg.
Walter was united in marriage to Helen D. Conrad on January 29, 1946, at the Basilica in Dyersville. Together they farmed northwest of Edgewood. In 1986 they retired and moved to Manchester. Walter was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards, watching baseball and football, going to Hardee’s with the “Hardee Boys”, and visiting.
Survivors include his five children, Nancy Crabbs of Waukee, Gwen (Richard) Elledge of Colesburg, Neil (Karen) Klosterman of Cary, Illinois, Steven (Karla) Klosterman of Solon, and Perry (Karen) Klosterman of Strawberry Point; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Zita Lansing of Dubuque, Helen Wessels , Dorothy Olberding, Jenny Conrad, and Mildred Schlichte all of Dyersville, Donna Juran of Edgewood, and Sister Marian Klostermann of Dubuque; and one sister-in-law, Frieda Loeffelholz of Dyersville.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Helen on November 28, 2000; an infant son, David; his parents; a brother, Everett; and a son-in-law, Ronald Crabbs.
