Robert “Bob” Francis Vaske, 82, of Manchester, died Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. He was born to Alois and Marcella (Lechtenberg) Vaske at New Vienna on December 3, 1927. Bob loved spending time with his family and he knew the birthdates and ages of all of his family members. Bob loved to read, especially Westeren novels,play Parcheesi,and listen to Polka music. He lived with his family on the farm by New Vienna until 1942, when they moved to rural Manchester. His parents retired from farming in 1962, and they moved into Manchester. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In 1998, Bob moved to the Penn Center, where he lived until October 2008, when he moved to the Good Neighbor Home. Survivors include brothers and sister, Walter (Ellen) Vaske of Manchester, Laverne Vaske of Marion, Irvin (Jeanette) Vaske of Marshalltown, Mary Quint of Ryan, Eugene (Betty) Vaske of Manchester, and Leon (Verna) Vaske of Manchester; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Vaske of Strawberry Point abd Loretta Vaske of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arthur and Gerald Vaske; two sisters-in-law, Frances Vaske and Mary Vaske and one brother-in-law, Sylvester Quint. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll Drive, the Penn Center or the Good Neighbor Home. | |
