Thomas H. Meyer, 65, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, died at his residence on Wednesday, January 20, 2010. He was born on December 13, 1944, in Edgewood, the son of Delbert and Mildred (Fischer) Meyer. Tom was raised and educated in the Strawberry Point area, and graduated from Starmont in 1964. He went to U.S. Trade School for auto mechanics in Kansas City. After trade school he moved back to Iowa and was drafted into the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam as a medic for two years. Tom worked at Lambert Chevrolet in Oelwein, Strawberry Implement, Rodas Chevrolet and Nading’s in Strawberry Point.
Tom was an active member of the Strawberry VFW and St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the Northeast Iowa Farm and Antique Association. He loved attending auctions, collecting antique engines, and was a collector of many things. He also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his nine siblings, Joan (Gerald) Streight of Dubuque, Kay (Ron) Burr of Marshalltown, Bill Meyer (special friend, Diana) of Elkader, Larry (Connie) Meyer and George (Ellen) Meyer both of Strawberry Point, Pat (Paul) Chopard of Edgewood, Bob (Brenda) Meyer of Strawberry Point, Julie (Dale) Grundmeyer of Edgewood, and Rick (Sue) Meyer of Strawberry Point; and many nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Mildred Meyer; two nephews, Nicholas Meyer and Nathan Chopard; and one niece, Jenny Grundmeyer.
