Boyd Chester Coleson, 82, of Manchester died at the Edgewood Convalescent Home on Thursday, February 18, 2010. He was born on April 2, 1927, in Manchester the son of Millard P. and Evelyn (Davis) Coleson. Boyd was raised on a farm near Lamont until moving to the home farm near Manchester. Boyd was quite proud when in 2007 he went with his family to the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines to receive the heritage award for their farm being in the family over 150 years.

Boyd was united in marriage to Erma Haas on March 29, 1946, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Anamosa. Six children were born to this union. Boyd served in the U.S. Army from 1946 until 1947 assigned to the Signal Corps. Boyd was a farmer most of his life and worked in construction during the summer.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 64 years, Erma Coleson of Manchester; his five children, Richard (Gail) Coleson of Ely, Linda (Dale) Trott of Clinton, Daniel (Bonnie) Coleson of Cedar Rapids, Kathryn (Dave) Horner of Waukee, and Denise (Tim) Larson of West Des Moines; 13 grandchildren, Kari, Kim, Kelli, Frank, Benn, Hattie, Claire, Nathan, Steve, Danielle, Cole, Ryan and Katelyn; 15 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Janice (Jerry) Everitt of Strawberry Point; and one sister, Marilyn (Frank) Shultz of South Carolina.

Boyd was preceded in death by his eldest son, David; his parents; one brother, Bill; and two sisters, Erma Jean and Sandra.
